These four albums were written and recorded over the span of five or so years, the earliest written being “Running Wild & Free” and “One in a Million.”  The live bonus tracks including on the CD remasters were from the two live albums Flashpoint recorded.  Of course, neither was actually live in any way, but were crude demo recordings with a live crowd cheering added to mask most of the quick and usually bad recording techniques used.  Many of these demos were never turned into official releases, including
the hidden gem “So Damn Happy” which is quite possibly the best song in history (not to use a broad generalization or anything).

We kind of rushed through “Ignition,” since we’d played those songs so many times we were pretty sick of them and just wanted to get them out of the way.  As a result, I think the official studio versions suffered a bit and don’t sound nearly as good as the demo versions.  On “Ring of Fire,” I can remember going into at least half of the songs no knowing exactly what to play.  Most vivid is “Chosen Ones,” which we practically made up as the tape was rolling.  It seems we practiced it only twice before recording it, yet it’s one of my favorites on the album.  “Chain Reaction” was an ambitious project that turned out nothing like I’d hoped.  It’s always been a disappointment and I’ve often wanted to re-record it but never bothered.  “Fight
Fire with Fire” has markedly better production values as well as much better written and arranged songs, but was sadly the last album Dave and I worked on together, but is it the last Flashpoint release?  There’s no telling.
